Today the sun strains red through the ragged forms of smoke hanging around the valley. It’s quite frightening to look at, and to see the red light on your skin and distorting the green of the grass, like a thin veneer of blood.
Our thoughts are with everyone on the firefronts in New South Wales and around the place. Be safe, and we will return to you everything you’ve lost.
Fire breathing dragons moving in fronts 30 kilometres wide.
Fire bisecting the highway and setting backyards alight.
The red eye of the sun straining through the yellow smoke.
The choking stench of smoke clinging to our clothes.
Dazed and frightened we try to escape.
Gum trees exploding as their oil starts to burn.
Orange flames rising fifteen metres into the air.
Fire is a terrifying thing.
